Why Nashville Families Choose Hillcrest

The kennel that knows your dog by name.

01

Indoor-outdoor climate-controlled runs

Nashville summers hit 95°. Winters hit 20°. Our runs are indoor/outdoor and climate-controlled year-round, with shaded outdoor exercise yards for multiple daily play sessions. Your dog stays comfortable no matter the weather.

02

Small staff who learn every dog's name

We're not a corporate chain. The same few people greet you at drop-off, walk your dog during their stay, and hand them back at pickup. Your dog's quirks, favorite treats, and anxiety triggers. We remember them.

03

Up on the hill for seventy years

Hillcrest has boarded Nashville's pets from 3541 Dickerson Pike for more than seven decades. Most of our customers' parents and grandparents trusted us with their dogs, too. That kind of institutional knowledge is hard to teach, and impossible to replace.

04

Open seven days a week, holidays included

Holiday and summer travel is when boarding matters most, so we're open every day of the year, with set drop-off and pickup windows so your travel plans stay on track. Reserve early for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and summer.

What Pet Owners Say

Trusted by Nashville families.

We have been taking Coby there for over 7 years when we're on vacation for his boarding. The staff are excellent and he loves going there. I think they spoil him when we leave. I wouldn't trust any other kennel with him. I can go on vacation with peace of mind knowing Coby is being well taken care of.

Best place ever to leave your pet. Was gone two weeks and had comfort knowing my dog was well taken care of. I believe she thinks it's her vacation too. She comes home so calm and happy. Also does awesome on grooming her. Way to go Hillcrest!

We have been taking our BIG dog here for over a year. They love her and remember her after long breaks. They have large kennels with outdoor space for each dog. We love picturing our dog laying outside looking at the world like she does at home. We have never met anyone that was anything but sweet.

Your Dog's Stay

What boarding looks like at Hillcrest.

From the moment you drop off, your dog is greeted by people who'll be caring for them all stay long. There's no front-desk handoff to a stranger. The same small team walks them, feeds them, and tucks them in.

Indoor/outdoor runs stay at a comfortable temperature year-round, with shaded outdoor yards for multiple daily exercise sessions. Bedding, toys, treats, and food are all provided, or bring your own if your dog has dietary preferences.

Each run is sized for the dog using it — small dogs in smaller runs at $46/day, mid-size at $54/day, large dogs at $60/day. The runs aren't stacked cages; every boarder has full standing height, climate-controlled air, and direct access between an indoor sleeping area and an outdoor run. Surfaces are sanitized between stays.

Most importantly: we keep things small. No assembly-line care, no rotating staff, no oversized facility where dogs blur together. Just the kind of dedicated boarding Nashville families have trusted for seventy years.

A Day at Hillcrest

What a typical boarding day looks like.

07:00

Morning routine

Doors open at 7 AM Tuesday through Saturday. Dogs are let out into the exercise yards for a morning stretch and bathroom break before breakfast. We feed your dog's usual food if you bring it, or our standard fare. Medications are administered on schedule with notes back to you at pickup.

10:00

Mid-morning yard time

Multiple yard sessions throughout the day for fresh air and movement. Dogs aren't crated for the duration of their stay — they rotate between indoor/outdoor runs and exercise yards. Climate-controlled runs keep things comfortable in summer heat and winter chill.

14:00

Afternoon check-in

Personal attention from the same small staff who knows your dog by name. We watch for changes in appetite, energy, or stool that signal stress. If anything seems off, we call you — not after the fact, but in the moment.

17:00

Evening wind-down

Final yard time before evening. Dinner is served, bedding refreshed, and dogs settle into their indoor runs for the night. The facility stays climate-controlled overnight; we don't stack boarders into vertical cages or warehouse them in oversized communal rooms.

Before You Visit

Before your dog's stay.

01

Vaccinations required

All dogs must be spayed or neutered. Current DHLPP, Rabies, and Bordetella vaccinations within 6 months — bring proof from your vet (a printed record or a forwarded email is fine). Storm-anxious dogs need vet-prescribed medication ready to administer in the original packaging.

02

What we don't accept

We're not accepting high-anxiety dogs, dog-reactive dogs, or escape artists at this time. If your dog has a history of biting, fence-jumping, or severe separation distress, please call ahead so we can talk through whether Hillcrest is the right fit.

03

What to bring

Most boarders need only their leash and a copy of vaccination records. We provide bedding, food bowls, and treats. If your dog has dietary preferences, food allergies, or is on a prescription diet, please bring their food in a labeled container with feeding instructions. Medications must be in original packaging with clear dosing notes.

04

Drop-off and pickup

Drop-off and pickup happen during our scheduled hours (see Hours & Location below). Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday windows are widest. On Sundays and holidays we have shorter morning and afternoon windows — please call ahead if you need exact timing. Plan to allow 5–10 minutes at drop-off so our team can walk through your dog's specifics.
